The Marketing major at UGA is future-oriented. Students take courses in consumer behavior, marketing research and strategy, sales management, analytics, digital marketing, social media, promotion, advertising, and many others to gain an understanding of the analytical methods and research procedures used in identifying and solving marketing problems in the ever-changing marketing world. Two areas of emphasis are available: Professional Selling and Digital Marketing. Coursework is bolstered by the student organization Pi Sigma Epsilon which offers business contacts, leadership experience, and social interaction. Consumer Behaviour Master Thesis
"My primary area of research lies in communication and more specifically the influence of virtual environments on people’s cognitive, affective and behavioral responses. I’m fascinated by how virtual experiences are able to meaningfully change the way that we interact in the physical world. The context of my studies largely falls into three categories: health, environmental and consumer behavior. I have also been working closely with the community by conducting field studies in a number of 4-H camps in Georgia to explore how virtual experiences can promote healthy choices in children. Despite the incredible speed of technological advancement and the explosion of popular interest in virtual environments such as virtual reality (e.g., Oculus Rift), augmented reality (e.g., Microsoft HoloLens), and video games, there is so much uncovered ground in these areas and so many unanswered questions. In short, I get to play with the most cutting-edge virtual devices and call it research — how could that be uninteresting?"
An internal thesis is conducted within the group. Internal theses contribute to the research program of the Marketing and Consumer Behaviour group. An internal thesis aims to contribute to publications in international scientific journals in marketing and consumer behaviour. For students interested in a research career, an internal thesis gives the best opportunity to develop academic research skills.

An external thesis is conducted outside the group. External theses contribute more remotely to the research program of the group. The application and further development of marketing and consumer behaviour knowledge prepares you to bring your academic skills into an applied environment.
